Chioggia beetroot:
- Soil maintenance : rich soil, deeply loosened, to avoid having forked roots. Bury the composted manure in autumn. Sensitive to frost
- Exposure: sunny
- Sowing: 3 cm deep in the ground, thin out to keep only one plant every 15 cm
- Rise: in 8 to 10 days
- Watering: moderate but regular in summer in case of strong heat. The roots become fibrous due to lack of water
- Combined cultivation: the beet appreciates the company of kohlrabi, lettuce, onion, dwarf beans and herbs such as dill and savory
- Harvest: from sowing to obtaining the plant, it takes 5 to 8 weeks. Count from 4½ to 5 months from sowing to harvest
- Conservation: the later ones can be stored in sand (in cool, dry and ventilated places: cellar). To do this, cut the foliage flush with the collar, and shorten the tapered part of the root
- Origin: beetroot has been known as a vegetable since ancient times
