The purchase of horticultural lighting will play a decisive role in your indoor cultivation. For example, you should choose a so-called growth bulb to facilitate photosynthesis and allow your plant and flowers to grow and have beautiful leaves. But also to trigger flowering and fruiting thanks to a so-called flowering bulb.

Sunlight is composed of different colours ranging from purple to red with a wavelength of 380nm. Green plants need only part of this spectrum. The goal is to find the best choice between artificial light sources that can be assimilated by the plant for good efficiency. The choice of your horticultural lamp should be linked to the choice of your growing room but also to your energy consumption and may have different intensities and powers / watts for different purposes.

MH (Metal Halide) bulbs are the most ideal for vegetative growth in indoor cultivation. HPS (High Pressure Sodium) bulbs are the most suitable for flowering (see sodium lamps). Be aware that this type of lighting will require the acquisition of a magnetic ballast or an electronic ballast as well as various accessories and kits in order to best manage the lighting time and also to secure your installation system to avoid fires.

The CFL bulbs of growth and CFL of bloom (Compact Fluorescent Lamp) have the characteristic to be more economic and does not require the acquisition of a ballast. They are nevertheless less efficient than HPS and MH bulbs. If you are looking for a more environmentally friendly lighting with a longer life span, take a look at our selection of horticultural led lamps and panels.

In both cases, you will need to acquire a reflector/lens to optimize the distribution of light within your crop and thus avoid the presence of undesirable heat points and have better results on your plants. Several models will be proposed to you (ventilated reflectors, parabolic reflectors, Cooltube especially for CFLs, etc...) in order to best suit each type of crop whatever its size.

Indoor Discount recommends the use of safety glasses to protect your eyes under horticultural lighting (HPS, HID, LED) during your crops
