Sowing and cuttings

Indoor Discount distributes all the equipment needed to create seedlings and cuttings, and to promote root formation, creation and development. From the most innovative to the most traditional, all the equipment in the Cutting & Seeding section is suitable for the efficient and rapid rooting of cuttings and seedlings. For information, cuttings refer to the process of rooting, the creation of roots on lateral scions (or branches) of plants, themselves taken from mother plants of proven potential donor maturity. To supply viable clones, this same maturity of mother plants is generally achieved after a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks' growth, with the help of horticultural lamps. Seedlings remain a generic term for young plants grown from seed.

Likewise, successful seedlings and cuttings require special climatic conditions and a mild photoperiod, ensured by a suitable horticultural lamp specific to rooting, such aseco CFL lighting, MH growth lamp kits, CMH lamp kits, etc LED horticultural lamps, turbo neon and T5, etc.

What equipment is needed for seedlings and cuttings?

To create healthy, perennial roots, seedlings and cuttings need special equipment and a special environment, to increase the success rate of this delicate cultivation stage.

In addition to the horticultural growth lamp, rooting seedlings and clones requires the use of :

  • Propagation substrates in the form of rockwool rooting cubes (Grodan), peat and perlite(X-Plug de Platinium or Eazy Plug), or coconut fiber (Ugro or Root Riot from The Growth Technology);
  • Hormones and additives, designed to root cuttings effectively by adding auxins(Clone Xroots from Platinium) and to dynamically develop the existing root system through powerful root stimulators (such as Rhizoponic from Platinium or Phase 1 from Vaalserberg Garden, for example);
  • From cloning systemssystems, or aeroponic cultivation systems specially developed for rooting any clone, safely and quickly, as offered by the SuperCloner range from Platinium;

What factors determine the rooting of seedlings and cuttings?

Generally speaking, seedlings, clones and young plants require a suitable atmosphere for this particular phase of germination or cutting. In fact, when monitored with a thermohygrometer, high hygrometry and a comfortable temperature actively contribute to healthy, vigorous rooting of young plants.

During this fateful rooting stage, recommended humidity levels should be around 70-80% at all times, with temperatures peaking at around 27°C. Propagation greenhouses and, in particular, cloning systems provide and maintain this climate, which is highly beneficial to effective rooting of seedlings and cuttings.
